On religion. [ August 24th, 2008 ] alifay [ mood | curious ] I want a religion. I have wanted one for some time. I have tried to find my own way, find my own beliefs. But it seems like I need some guidance. I have always wanted to take a class on religion to try to find something that clicks, and just to understand more. Religion is such a huge part of human nature, and I want to understand it better. I want to know what people believe, why they believe it, and how those beliefs manifest themselves. I have a few beliefs of my own I have picked up over my life journeys, firm beliefs that don't falter. For one, the most important one to me, is the power of the person. A lot of people believe that the power comes from an outside source, a single (or multiple) greater being(s). I believe that all powers reside within the person. That that power takes form in prayer, good wishes, and "bad" wishes as well. I believe in a gray area. In life, there is no light without shadow. There are no "true good" or "true evil". The gray area may not balance out one or the other side, but it is absolutely present in all beings. Some more than others. I believe in a soul. I believe in karmic energy. I believe the sum whole is greater than the sum of the parts. These come to me in life simply by being the change I want to see in the world. A total acceptance that the only thing I can change is myself, my actions, my perspectives. Also, acceptance that I am flawed, and I will always be flawed, but that I can take action to minimize those flaws. I treat everyone without exception kindly, and politely. I trust in the power of myself, and the power of you as well. In every person resides a story, logic to their actions, and their own flaws as well. Things I am not sure about but open to ... a skeptic waiting to become a believer on most, are: past lives/reincarnation (very interested here), auras, instant spiritual healing, other worldly gods, evil, the idea of collective unconscious ... and a whole myriad of things I am sure I am just not bringing to mind.
